We generalized the notion of ecological autocatalysis to make it applicable to ecophysiological, population, and community processes. The idea was, in some respect,s present in Patten’s notion of environ.

This might provide a basis for reconceptualizing systems ecology around the ecological autocatalysis in its broad sense.
